Child/Adolescent Therapeutic Intervention

Program Description

Solutions for Living's Child/Adolescent Therapeutic Intervention Program is designed as a time-intensive in-home, family and community based service intended for high-risk children/adolescents who have been or would likely be resistant/unresponsive to a more traditional type of therapeutic intervention. Such youth generally have a history of out-of-home placement or are at risk for such. The Program supports and strengthens the youth's basic ability to overcome situationally aggravated personal developmental problems and to function in a growth enhancing manner in the home, at school, and in the community.

The following are some of the characteristics that most frequently describe the Program's target population:

• Oppositional behavior in the home and at school
• Chronic truancy
• Inability to form positive relationships with peers or adults
• Delinquent acting-out
• Excessive risk-taking that threatens the youth's personal safety
• Substance abuse
• Sexual acting-out that can result in exploitation
• Inability to manage anger
• Aggressive/violent behavior directed toward family members and/or peers
• Chronic depression, sometimes resulting in suicidal gestures or attempts

The Program provides the following services:

• Individual therapy
• Group counseling
• Family intervention
• Crisis intervention
• Advocacy
• Specialized counseling (sexual abuse, substance abuse)

Program services are generally provided within a three-month or six-month time-frame.
